Being “key” sounds flattering until you notice where keys usually live: on someone else’s chain.

This painting plays with the almost-accidental pun between donkey and don’t key — turning the donkey into a symbol of stubborn self-preservation. Not stupidity. Not laziness. Not failure. Just the quiet intelligence of not becoming the tool everyone reaches for when they refuse to open their own doors.

Don’t Be Key is about keeping distance from the seductive trap of being needed too much. About refusing to become infrastructure. About choosing mild absurdity over functional captivity.

Sometimes the most radical thing you can do is not unlock anything.
